The Eternal Debt of Love

Works of Love

My love is an eternal debt

What do you think of yours?

I endless give without regret

When you pay, do you feel poor?

If from love the middle term's removed

Love's economic and a species of exchange

In true love our eternal debt's approved

We know that's how love in truth's arranged

How in love can we make a final payment

As if that's all love is worth?

Love is expansive and no digital statement

That would make of love a curse

Such economic love would leave us bankrupt

Lost in accretive isolation

We won't let love even interrupt

Our passionate alienation

We are alien to the love of self

If no one else can be our thou

When we deny our love for someone else

We discard the love we are endowed

Love is a gift for which we gladly give

Much more than we are given

Love is the grace so we can fully live

And not feel endless driven

Because I'm always in love's debt

I feel love's audit in perfect balance

The choice of love's miser we will regret

We feel love's presence only in its absence
