Introduction

A Poet’s Heart is my third book of poetry. It is one that I hold dear to my heart. God and my students have inspired me to write my inspirational poetry book, to send a message of God’s faith, hope, and love for you. I hope that it will inspire you to follow your dreams, and be true to your heart. From a poet’s heart to yours, I pray that you will always know the love and peace of God.

May God Bless You and Hold You in the Palm of His Hand

A Poet’s Heart

The Poet’s Heart

Is by Far

A Gift from God

It’s Voice Speaks

With Intensity

To the strong and weak

Of a place where the poet dares to go Expressing thoughts and emotions from the soul With words powerful enough to heal In a world of good and evil

The Poet’s heart cares to speak the truth With no need to people please me or you Whether the audience can handle all the jingle jangle A dark room is lit by an enlightened candle Of faith, hope, love, and even peace Perhaps it could even be

Dark emotions were torn ever so deep Tucked within the shell of its own body Yet, the Poet’s Heart can make even a dead spirit come alive In fact, a Poet’s Heart has been known to save and inspire lives

Spiritual Awakening

Darkness turned into light

As a lost soul awakened in the night Fear enmeshed one while being in a frightful state Like a miracle, a soul was born again with a muster-seed of faith

When selfishness and self-will tarnished its own heart Heavenly rapture sprinkled morning dew upon the stars While loneliness and false pride fed a toxic poison into their veins

The grace of God filled the spirit and it became sane While sorrow consumed a heart and head Adversities cast out the grace of peace as tears were shed Jealousy and bitterness controlled dark emotions within the soul until the strike of twelve Truth and a spiritual healing saved souls from the pits of hell Passion appeared with a self-righteous tongue with haunting lies well into the lonely nights Greed and arrogance blurred visions while daunting insecurities left

Souls lost, dazed, and uptight

Holy water cleansed disheartened soul’s lives When suddenly the love for God, self, and humanity birthed into souls the wonder of God’s grace Changing forever lost soul’s fate S 2 S

Angel’s danced Upon Moonbeams

When one moves onto a new place Leaving shattered dreams and fallen tears upon their face Will time leave a sense of loss one cannot fully erase?

New beginnings refuse to leave its trace Leaving behind a scent of lost hope and faith While moving towards a much brighter day Where the sun will shine upon ones face Just a glimmer of memories will enter the mind When the soft gentle breeze tests the fate of time The essence and solitude from the sea Will one day gently remind thee That the love of God tenderly touched one’s heart As a poet writes in verse and prose and destiny plays its part Empowering others to speak of truth and wisdom Angels dance upon moonbeams and sing They rejoice as lost souls were saved By the unconditional beauty of Gods loving grace As one moves on to embrace their journey The twinkling stars shine brightly o’er the sea Where a once darkened spirit faced endless, heartbreaking days

Longing nights of love come to life in summer’s sweet haze For a once silenced voice now took the lead It had faith and believed

I Wish You Could See What I See For My Student’s

Donna’s GED Class

I wish you could see what I see How very much they all mean to me They come to me broken

With words yet to be spoken

Confused as lost sheep

Uncertain of what their futures will bring Some with pasts as that of a gangster Hoping one day that they too will feel heaven’s rapture With issues and disabilities

Such as drug addiction, alcoholism, mental illness, and ADHD

Some committed crimes to feed their disease Fighting to hold onto their families I wish you could see what I see Their unique creativity

Oh the possibilities

They teach me humility

Many of them have become my friends Broken hearts begin to mend

Blessed to be their teacher

Some become dream reachers

S 4 S

As they make that change

They drop the word blame

Hearts will never be the same

I see the pain in their eyes

Shame, remorse, and sleepless nights When love and light shines

I see the miracle of God in their lives How honored I am to see this take place With Gods loving grace

They become all they were meant to be The past then sets them free

I wish you could see

How the power of love can set them free R

For This Moment

For this moment in time

I will breathe in all that is mine The love and peace inside of my soul For this moment I will cherish and hold I will inhale love without expecting any back While forgetting any adversity I ever had For this moment, I will feel that all is good with the world Knowing in my heart that riches and pearls Have their place on Earth but cannot make me happy Yet, I can capture the essence of their beauty For this moment, I will appreciate nature’s wonder and the fields where crops grow

That nourishes my spirit and replenishes the soul For this moment, I will live life to the fullest, trust God, and let go

Oh Little Star

Oh little star in the sky

Do you know the secret that I hide?

I feel sad for the world

For every man, woman, boy and girl I feel God’s disappointment

In mankind’s disillusionment

That money and power can make one happy Failing to see happiness comes from inside of thee Oh little star, I would like to make a wish It goes something like this

I wish for peace on Earth

That we remember the promise of Jesus’ birth For all children to be loved

For teens to put away their guns For parents to have less stress That everyone will be blessed

Oh little star

My wish comes from my heart

The Heart that Meant Well

There once was a heart that meant well It scattered love and joy to those who fell Little did this heart know

It needed divine light to keep this special glow To touch the hearts of others

This heart needed to clean out the clutter Of adversities it held onto during its life For the broken had no roots to grow from, dim was the light

Eventually, this weary heart ceased to grow It withered one day, and as it died, it was led to a brighter light, sent by the divine

This heart began to shine

No longer was it a heart that meant well It became a pure heart that touched souls R

S 8 S

When the Sun Goes Down

When the sun goes down and takes a nap No worries it will soon be back When the clouds rain on your parade Have faith for a brighter day

When someone hurts your feelings Try to count your blessings

When a loved one is taken away from you As it leaves you lonely and blue I pray that heaven’s angels will watch over you When the chips are down and the funds are low There may someday be treasures in this world for you to sow

When lost love leaves

Your heart to bleed

Take the time to see

What makes you happy?

When the children forget the meaning of no Forgive them and let the little things go Love and cherish each moment together, and hold them close

Guide them as they grow, and always let them know How very much you love them so

When parents seem to get on your nerves S 9 S

Cherish them for bringing you onto this Earth If it feels like God is too slow at answering your prayers Remember he loves you and truly cares When the boss fails to acknowledge your unique talents and dedicated work

Pray for them, and light a candle the next time you go to church

When your best friend no longer has time for you Reach out to other friends old and new When the sun goes down on you

The clouds will lift and you will be renewed R

If I Could Change the World

If I could change the world

I would protect our children and youth Empower them to shine on through I would teach them to have faith To see the inner beauty God has graced Upon them until they reach the pearly gates For everyone to have a soul mate Only love would exist and never hate The animals would be treated with tenderness The elderly would be blessed

The world would live in harmony There would be only love and peace Where everyone is respected

The freedom for the love of God would be protected There would be no wars

No tears anymore

Loneliness would no longer be

Everyone would be free

From injustice and misery

People would have serenity

Only love would exist

It would always consist

S 11 S

Of honor and praise

By Gods loving grace

No judgments would be made

Only acceptance and praise

For one another

We would all be sisters and brothers There would be no need

To fear not living out our dreams No more hungry mouths to feed

All would have plenty to eat

One’s spirit would be filled

With true sisterhood and brotherhood instilled In their hearts and minds

Until the end of time

Follow Your Dreams

Be true to your heart

Inside of you lies a star

Although others may not believe in you Never stop believing that your dreams can come true Stretch for your dreams as high as you can One day you will begin to live them While making a difference in the world we live For dream reachers know how to give In the end you will be blessed

For the legacy that you left

Will continue to touch many souls A priceless gift to treasure and hold R

S 13 S

When the World Has Let You Down Cast your cares upon the one who loves you so Give him a chance he will let himself be known When your dreams feel out of reach Listen to what love and life have to teach The answer lies inside of your heart For solutions to make a new start God will never let you down

He is patient and always around Blessing you when life gives another fall He will guide you back to him so listen to his call At times it may feel as if no one cares He works through others to prepare Us for eternal life ever so gently, so that we can learn through each lesson of pain and strife All you can take from this life Is love it’s important to make it your priority To live in truth and dignity

Temptations will be there to trip you up Remember only he can fill your cup R

S 14 S

With Each Goodbye We Grow

Even with loss many times we can grow When we reach deep inside of our souls To look at the very roles

We played in each other’s lives For the feelings deep down inside Carry lessons we need to learn

As we grieve and mourn

It is always best to seek the truth To spiritually grow from its fruit Dare to express

With no regrets

The love you both held

How it made your heart melt

You will become wiser and stronger From a place o’er yonder

Trust yourself and prepare

Reach out to others and share

Love and support to show how much you care R

An Angel Appeared

A beautiful angel appeared when I was in tears I felt alone, and shed some tears I went to the chapel to pray

Hoping to have a brighter day

To find faith and peace in my day It was then that she appeared

While she was telling me that God really cared I could not seem to stop my fallen tears She told me that the tears would be given to those who could not cry

So that they could find peace inside I began to fly with her in the sky She kissed my cheek

While telling me that it was only human to sometimes feel lonely

That I was never alone

One day I would be carried home The good I did on this Earth would be known I hugged her and watched her go I lost the loneliness and fear

When an angel appeared

As I Awoke this Morning

I felt the sunlight upon my skin Through my window I caught a glimpse of spring I captured the beauty of the big blue sky As I began thinking of the world’s state I sighed Seems to be so much suffering and strife The Dolphins dying in the Gulf of Mexico The ones being affected by the big oil spill Our soldiers dying still

Talks of a new war

The tragedies of the so called natural disasters Folks losing their homes and struggling to get by is a serious matter

Japan’s Earthquake, Tsunami, and the fear of spreading radiation

The loss of lives in a devastated country is heart-breaking We do our part by sending prayers and relief It makes me realize even more that this world is temporary I stepped outside where the baby birds were at rest I fed the adorable baby birds in their nest Upon dawn I asked God for a special quest That God would have mercy on all of us R

Love Can Do Many Things

Love can make your heart sing

Take you to the wonders of heaven It softens the dead of winter

Makes ones woes lighter

Blankets you with warmth

Quiets the imperious storm

Gives refuge to the daunting foes Fills an endless void

Of restless starving pangs

Echoes of loneliness transcend

Washes away all heartache and rain Rainbows and waterfalls to starlit skies Enlightens the yearning soul to fly ever so high Soaring through the galaxies

Fulfilling a God given destiny

Moonbeams dance upon heaven’s delight As lovers kiss at the touch of midnight Whispered messages of hope are shed for those who weep Giving mighty strength for the weary and weak Loves sweet fragrance gallantly drifts off to sea Seasoned to last for all eternity R

The Amazing Power of Love

Love is the sun shining on a cold and dark winter day Love eases loss, heartache, and pain Love brings sunshine to dry ones tears Love sheds hope and brings on cheer Love moves mountains and embraces the tide Love lessens yesterday’s goodbyes Love can take the place of hate Love opens heaven’s gate

Love sees only the good in you and me Love will make your heart soar

Love is never a chore

Love is a gift that one can trust Love is the wonder of Gods unconditional love Love is the sweet innocence of a child Love will do its best and walk the extra mile Love is the parent who is older and lonely Love is the daughter or son who visits them regularly Love is the teacher who helps their students to follow their dreams

Reach Out and Touch a Heart

Reach out and touch someone’s heart Give them a great recipe for love Initiate to them that they deserve the very best Bless them with your friendship Tell them that you really care

Assure them you will be there

Show them how to pray

Inspire them along the way

Spend quality time with them too Try not to judge the things that they do Rather lend them your ear

Help them to relieve their fears Try to take them for who and what they are Guide them to follow their hearts Protect them if their weary or worn Show them their loved and so much more For we are all sisters and brothers God intended us to be there for each other R

S 21 S

It’s Going to be Okay

It’s ok if you had a bad day

Things will once again go your way Nothing in life lasts forever

Before you know it you’ll be happy to be together With your loved ones

Going out and having fun

Just kick off your shoes and dust yourself off You’re too nice to be in a rut

I know that the clouds came in today Remember that you’re strong and love will find a way To once more make things ok

No more doom and gloom

Feel the sunshine like a beautiful day in June Rejoice now and claim victory

For a new day shall bring you joy and serenity R

What Are You Made of?

Are you soft like a kitten?

A bug that is biting

Do you bark like a dog?

Are you tough as an ox?

Do you quack like a duck?

Fly elegantly as a dove

A precious secret unknown to the world An angel to touch disheartened souls A match maker

Perhaps a dream taker

A lover in the night

Who holds their mate tight

Glaring eyes like an owls

A tiger licking clean

Their babes tenderly

A bat attacking in the dark

A child who is lost and starved An inspiring man or woman

Are you blessed with many children?

A courageous woman or man

Who protects our land?

A teen that makes a few mistakes in life S 23 S

Then comes clean in the light

A preacher who practices what they teach A student who works hard to succeed Do you work hard in a factory?

With oppressions others could hardly believe Are you a go getter?

Do you blame others?

For your fate

Do you practice your faith?

A proud citizen of America

A dream reacher

Are you an undertaker?

A poet who inspires the world

A musician who entertains people A dancer with great pose and elegance Are you a comedian who has the gift to make others laugh?

A grandmother who gives their grandchildren a fun bath

A senior citizen with a lonely soul Riches galore that you hope to own Perhaps a creator

A devoted educator

A faithful servant of God

A celebrity who was once lost

S 24 S

A country grieving the loss of their soldiers From the horror of war

Whatever your cause is make it count I pray that God’s cause for you will be found R

A Renewed Heart

There once was a renewed heart

At one time this heart stopped

It began beating again tonight

When suddenly a friend arrived

An angel sent right from God

To protect and start

New hopes and dreams with a renewed heart Did you ever have an angel sent to you this way?

If so did it renew your faith?

Where Does One Get Their Identity?

What defines you?

Is it something you believe in or that you love to do?

For me, it comes from the King of Kings Jesus, who is at the center of my being For a big part of my life I looked for people, places, and things

To fill my identity

This too often left me feeling empty I didn’t find my identity when I was growing up Unfortunately, back then I never felt like I could quite measure up

It made me feel bad and I would cry I looked for my self-worth and identity through others eyes

I felt like I needed their approval of me This only enabled me to remain self-deceived When I got older addictions left my heart and soul to bleed Again, it was always people, places, and things When the score cards read zero and I hit a bottom, I could finally see

By surrendering to God spirituality led me to my true identity

It was amazing when I put that first S 27 S

I lost my never ending thirst

Of trying to find myself and who and what I was It was then that I found my cause To put my pride away and open my heart R

Sitting at the Piano

As I sit by the piano with wonder I go back to a place o’er yonder To when I was a young child

Seems so very long ago now

I realize so much dear God

That your merciful and tender heart Gave to me a precious gift

I close my eyes and make a wish By the piano

I begin to play the notes

Of the songs

I just made up

I wake up to a new day

As I sing praise

To you for this undeserving gift My heartfelt soul now lifts

From your undying love that makes me feel brand new While dreams come true

Inspiring others through your will Oh Lord only you fill

My heart, mind, and soul

An endless destiny that I have come to know S 29 S

As I sit at my piano now so ever still I dream of being blanketed in daffodils Filled with love and gratitude

For the treasures

I will hold close to my heart forever R

Touched by an Angel

A student walked into the GED classroom With her eyes down and being consumed Of uncertainty and strife

I could sense that she wanted to make herself a better life I felt the faith that she had inside Her inner beauty touched my heart and soul I was moved by her inspiring glow As she reached out to me, and the other students in the classroom

I watched the miracle of an angel bloom She touched my heart and soul

Forever I will cherish and hold In my heart, a very special angel R

The World Has Changed So Much

Families losing their homes

With no place to go

We live in a troubled world

Not even the little boys and girls Are safe anymore, being more often victims of violent crimes

Some say that it’s a sign of the times It just breaks my heart

Innocent little children just making a start People shudder to hear the news and read the newspaper Human beings committing crimes to innocent bystanders Many people do all that they can do while others pray For a much better day

We must all come together

To find solutions with prayer

Rise Above

Rise above life’s adversities

For God will fill your every need Keep the faith and never forget Walking with him will keep you blessed Be not of this world and trust in him He will see you through everything Rise above all evil

Fly like an Eagle

When you give him your heart

Nothing can keep you apart

You will prevail and rise above each test in life Don’t be afraid to ask him for help to do things right Feel the sun upon your face, stand tall, walk in dignity, and grace

He will protect you with his guiding light He gives perfect love to you and I Rise above and you will see

How the grace of God can set us free R

Listening to the Sounds of Silence In the sounds of silence

I wrestle with the essence

Of my existence

A once broken spirit

Capturing now the inner beauty that exists Caressing each moment with harmony and bliss With scents of sweet fragrances that nourish my soul In the silence I have come to know God and his messages of love that exist For once in my life I am empowered to resist The clutter in the depths of my mind Enabling me to embrace the treasures that are mine In this silence I find

Peace and the grace of God

With gentle messages that soothe my heart May you find in the sounds of silence The strength and hope that enables resilience While providing you with joy and peace to shelter you from life’s storms

With a symphony of love and wisdom that makes you feel re-born

I Lost a Student Today

I’m heartbroken over the loss of my student today He died at a young age

He was only twenty seven

I pray that he is in heaven

He was kind hearted

He was suddenly killed, and now he’ll never have the chance to finish the career he started He will never again see his three children It won’t be the same without him His family now grieves and his friends are in disbelief He was one of the nicest students that I have ever met He once told me that he’d never forget The poems that I shared with him He died from the hands of violence I’m praying for his family and friends R

Friends

Some say that true friends are hard to find A friend is a blessing to have by your side Friends do not judge

Even if they’re in a rush

They take time to read your poems Making you feel right at home

When it feels like the world has let you down They can take away your frown

Empower you to stay on track

They often have your back

Remind you that God doesn’t make junk Put a smile on your face if you’re in a funk True friends will tell you the truth Rather than placate the things that you do Take you out for a summer ride

Make you feel grateful to be alive They always seem to lift you up They love and cherish you just because R

When you’re Down and Out

When you’re down and out I’ll be on your side I will comfort you tonight

Dry your tears

Through the years

I will lighten your load
