The Tree of Wisdom and Life

Two people stood at either side of a tree,

This was no ordinary tree however.

On one side fruit grew in abundance and life dwelled,

On the other, death was the sole inhabitant.

Not a songbird, not even a vulture in sight.

On the side filled with life was an elder man who leaned against the tree.

Loving life and as happy as could be,

He understood his passions and could find inspiration in anything.

His life was lived well and a smile showed as he was beaming.

On the other side of the tree in which death availed,

Stood a 17 year old boy,

Growing up had been tough and he had lost all of his joy.

His father lost his war against cancer,

And his mom left them both with questions unanswered.

He wished death would find him as it had the tree,

But his luck was out,

He tried to scream, he tried to shout,

Yet no noise escaped his mouth.

He couldn't understand how much life was still around the corner.

Slowly the floor began turning the old man and the boy on either sides of the tree in a circular rotation.

The boy couldn't see life going on as the floor turned him around the stump,

And the old man was blinded to the fact that his death was only around the bend.

When he realized his inevitable path, he still remained joyous.

He saw how fulfilling his life was and how he kept his every promise.

The young boy finally noticed the movement of the floor and looked ahead at his near future.

He realized how his past only had a personal effect on him but didn't determine the greatness of his life ahead.

When the floor refrained from moving he realized that his life had spun 180 degrees.

He lived out the rest of his life without looking back.

But he never forgot the tree and where his past had brought him.
