Unobtainable Freedom
Like a balloon released, floating on high,
The optimism within knows no bounds.
Neither limits of endurance, nor natural good sense.
All is within their grasp,
including that which is not.
The impossibility of their desires always ignored,
Blind hope blossoms where mere hope is sown.
The endless desire to live free, an insatiable thirst
where no water flows.
With uncontrollable enthusiasm bursting forth,
They seek what should be their right,
the lesson yet to be learnt.
The dreams crushed by the clanging metal machines,
The flowers cut down by the hail of bullets.
The waning of their struggle a short lived thing,
The fervent want feeding the belief, denying the reality,
The deflated balloon soon towers high again.
A never ending belief in unobtainable freedom,
inflamed by the relentless yearning inside.
Demanding their liberty, fuelling a surge,
Always seeking the path too high.
Gripping tight the idea, already lost,
never more than a hopeless wish.
Crushed endlessly by the despots of power,
The controllers of the machines of war.
Forever aiming too high, refusing to relent,
Never to be discouraged, never to descend,
the wanting of it all,
An unwavering conviction of soaring free.
