On Being a Woman

What does it mean to be a woman?  How can anyone say?

For women live and women love each in a different way;

As different as snowflakes with never two the same,

There are as many ways to play as players in the game.

 What you consider a perfect life would never do for me;

The things that make you happiest are not my cup of tea.

Some like to live a hum-drum life, content to sit and dream

While others give it all they’ve got, or love to plot and scheme.

What does it mean to be a woman?  What makes a woman sigh?

It could be a beautiful sunset, or a newborn baby’s cry;

It could be digging up ancient bones that speak of another time,

Or listening to music - frenetic, or sublime.

It could be donning a uniform and going to fight the foe

Or maybe fighting the passing years to maintain the status quo.

For some it means adventure, as o’er the world they roam,

For many more it simply means security and home.

What does it mean to be a woman? It depends on your point of view -

Or maybe on your religion -  Hindu, Muslim, Jew...

Whether you’re rich and famous with a “view” from every room

Or whether you live in poverty from the cradle to the tomb.

With so many ways of looking at things, is there a “woman’s way” ?

Does a female terrorist kneel, like me, to pray?

Does anyone else feel how I feel whenever I smell a rose?

What does it mean to be a woman? Only a woman knows.
