The Seedling

Consider the strength in a seedling.

At first so insignificant

so small and frail and weak

it has the strength to push itself

through paving stones or concrete

to become a tall and rugged tree

as tough as anything you’ll see.

The power contained in a tiny seed

beggars belief but still it needs

others to help it day by day,

that’s just nature’s way.

Sun and rain encourage growth

buffeting winds help make it strong

it sings its own internal song

while good earth gives it shade.

Without the aid these allies show

the seed would never grow.
