A Prayer of Friendship
G
OD grant that should my precious lifetime
friend
Go on before me at the journey’s end,
There would be nothing I have left undone
From morning light until the set of sun
To serve and help that friend if there be need
God grant that there be left no kindly deed
That I may have within my power to do.
There is much stress, the briefest lifetime through,
And grief and pain if it be long. I would
Reach out a hand to help him if I could,
And when at last I look upon his face,
Serene and tranquil, may there be no trace
Of mute reproach, and no deep hurt in me
That I had failed in any ministry.
