Resolve
I
SHALL keep my sorrow secret—I shall live
Courageously and bravely as I can.
I shall be silent if I cannot give
Some word of comfort to my fellow man.
I shall not add my sorrow to his own.
He, too, is climbing up an ancient hill,
A cross upon his back—the grief I’ve known
Will be no aid to him—I shall keep still.
Until that time when I have fully learned
The lesson grief should teach, will I be free
To speak the healing word, and he has turned
To me with outstretched arms for sympathy,
Then only, on that difficult steep slope,
Shall I have words to cheer and give him hope.
