Everywhere we look

they wait

they lurk

demanding our time

our life

our emotion

our sense of wonder

they grasp

they grab

they steal

a moment forever

on the neon billboards they are preaching

on the smart phones they are stupifying

in the headlines they are a sensation

hungry for our time

they will perfect their lying

but even if the world believes them

does it make them true

does it make them worth all the time we give them

every moment we invest in fear

we will never see again

every hour we live as a slave to their lie

is another lost opportunity to live

every year we are content to sit and stare

we drift a little further down the river

we fall a little further down the hill

maybe we need to wake up and start dreaming

maybe we need to exchange the virtual for the real

the emptiness for a divine purpose

sometimes sanity comes by leaving

the things they are screaming

their bells, whistles and constant ringing

the walls of white noise

they are building

you know, you are worth more than this

you are more than a robot, built for pushing around and prompting
