The Ache & The Endless Sea

Image

They say it was a freak accident

the wave that threw us back

as helpless wreckage to the shore

and as the sun is dying

a star falling with the day

I can’t help but feel the salt of wondering

burning into my soul

a short time ago

you were here

with the waves, laughing

only a short time ago

we would go

wandering under this starry heaven

the same sky that now divides

you and I

I only hope the angels

found you singing

there on the other side

of darkness

but I’m still standing

with this ache, you left me holding

watching the tide falling

returning to the endless sea

carrying this memory

like a message in a bottle

floating toward eternity
