A letter to my children

From behind they jump me
Like cowards there are they attack me unarmed
Kick, blows, fists are hammered
Silting my throat with a knife
I ask what for?
For a flimsy $10 note and a phone
Blood gushing out
I know I will not make it out
Listen up my dear children as I write from the great beyond
My wife is still young and energetic,
I know she will be in the hands of another
My children will grow up without a father
The only blood father they will know is my brother
If only I had clairvoyance
I would have told my children I love them
I never got to say I love you to them
To preoccupied making money
Nor did I call my wife honey
From the great beyond I write
My beautiful daughter Rutendo
Take care of your mother and brother
And to you my son Rukudzo
Take care of your mother and sister
And to you my beautiful wife Danai
Look after the children
Danai don’t be held back by my death
You are young don’t close the doors of love
To you my children,
Respect the man of your mother
He is also your father
As blood drips of my letter
I assure you everything will be better
I write this letter to you my children from the great beyond
