SPINNING

Now from whiskey to wine,

Some succulent fruit

That ate away at my mind.

I could taste the bitterness that

Chased every bit.

I emerged foolishly

From the shell I hid behind.

I crawled home and slipped into bed.

The room was closing in,

The bed, spinning unwavering

I nearly choked on the bile

From the poison I swigged.

I grabbed a towel to stifle the sounds

The guttural sounds of my stomach

As my drunkenness fell to the ground.

I vowed to steer clear of the liquor

That hit me so loud.
