About the Author
Christian G. Ulloa was born and raised in Ecuador. He was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at birth. His family moved to New York when he was 7 years old, primarily to search for medical assistance and advisement for his disability. At the time he arrived to the United States, social workers advise his parents that he would be better off at a school for special kids with disabilities. His mother, Esperanza, was completely against this notion and fought to keep him in the public school system.
In 1992 his mother, his younger brother Carlos, and himself went to Ecuador for one year where he attended a very strict private school during the seventh grade. While in school, Christian noted the huge difference not only between cultures but also between the school systems amongst the two countries. When he came back to the states with a different perspective, he realized the vast education opportunities the United States had to offer. He became very intrigued about the fact that this was filled with educational resources open to just about everyone. While he was a high school student with good standing, Christian created and deployed a community service project to teach computers to a local hospital staff. He received the Islip Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, United States Presidential Academic Fitness Award, and the Suffolk County Youth Achievement Award for his efforts.
After graduating high school, he pursued a degree in electrical engineering at Polytechnic University at age 18. There he joined a National Social Fraternity called Tau Delta Phi. Later, in 2001, the college campus was shut down and he transferred to the State University of New York at Farmingdale where he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems. At Farmingdale, he received the Certificate of Academic Achievement for two consecutive years as well as a position as President of Farmingdale Information Technology Club.
At the time of this publication, Christian was pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
