The Caterpillar

The butterfly the caterpillar mocks,

'You're no swan but one of the ugly ducks.'

Her beauty now the caterpillar shocks.

The butterfly's wings, the prettiest frocks,

The caterpillar's form completely sucks.

The butterfly the caterpillar mocks.

He's awed by her wings, on them his glance locks,

His body carefully within him tucks.

Her beauty now the caterpillar shocks.

The caterpillar wants to hide by rocks,

Ashamed to talk to her, his words he mucks.

The butterfly the caterpillar mocks.

'You'll get wings too,' she says as reason knocks.

He didn't know this fact, his pride so plucks.

Her beauty now the caterpillar shocks.

He's awed by the way the butterfly flocks,

He says:  'I'll get those wings too one day?  Shucks!'

The butterfly the caterpillar mocks,

Her beauty now the caterpillar shocks.
