LION BRAND large-eyed blunt needle

Circular knitting needle size 9 (5.5 mm), 36 in. (91.5 cm) long

Gauge: 15 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) over pattern.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern  and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and  rows to match the gauge, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try  a larger size hook or needles.

Stitch Explanation

Yo (yarn over)

An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as fol ows:

1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.

2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to  proceed with the next st as instructed.

Abbreviations

k = knit

p = purl

rep = repeat(s)(ing)

RS = right side

sl = slip

st(s) = stitch(es)

wyib = with yarn in back

wyif = with yarn in front

WS = wrong side

yo = yarn over

Notes

1. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth on  the circular needle as if working on straight needles.

2. Afghan is worked in one piece, with 9 sections worked in alternating st and color patterns.

3. Sections 3-9 are repeats of Section 1 or Section 2, changing colors to create a striped effect.  With yarn in front (wyif) refers to the side of the work facing you as you work the row; with  yarn in back (wyib) refers to the side of the work that is away from you as you work the row.

4. To move yarn from front to back or back to front, bring yarn between needles. Take care not  to wrap yarn over a needle, this could create an additional st.

5. Always sl sts as if to purl. On RS rows, sl sts as if to purl with yarn at back; on WS rows, sl sts  as if to purl with yarn at front.

6. Only one color is used on each row. Do not cut the unused color between color changes,  carry the unused color along the side edge of your work.
