VIII. Creatures From Beyond

“We are Angels, not the mythological kind. Angels were the first creatures to make progress in science. We were guided by the force you worship as God. God is a conscious energy to our people and early Angels found a way to tap into this consciousness. In that way they communicate with God and the all knowing ever encompassing energy guides our existence. With the help of God’s directions we were the earliest to cross the boundaries of dimensions and worlds. After populating the seven habitable planets of our dimension we Angels sought out more worlds that could be used for expansion. God sent us to earth. By the time that the Angels reached earth, it was already inhabited by a humanoid race, the Homo erectus. We did not realize why God had sent us here. But the men here were godless, ignorant. The Angels took up the species as their pet training it in ethics and science. They employed officers to look after the species. They were called the Guardian Angels. No one wanted to come to earth to become a Guardian as it meant sacrificing so many luxuries available in our worlds. So being a Guardian Angel was a sort of punishment for misdemeanour. One who served the full term with discipline got to be reinstated in our world.” Cassie started to narrate.

“Our world comprised of a federation of seven planets called the seven heavens. The number of the planet is directly proportional to the power of the inhabitants. I am from the sixth heaven. Sixth heaven is a cursed planet one of whose sides is always submerged in darkness. I am from the surface of light. It is ruled by Raphael. But the dark surface is ruled by the creature Samael. The names of the Angels are passed down from generations along with their powers, like your surnames and DNA. With each generation the powers evolve and are transferred to the next. The powers also add through mating. The female of our species act as carrier of power and when they are mated with a male the powers are transferred to the male. Very few females can manifest the power they carry. For instance my grandfather from my mother’s side controlled lightning storms, my father controlled rain. After mating my father attained control over both thunder and rain and in addition the sky. He became the angel of the sky. I served as carrier for his power. Once I lost my powers for mating with you I turned into a mere healer.

“Can you imagine what may have happened if darkness is united with the sky. When the darkness rule the sky life will vanish. Samael wanted that for which he wished to mate with me. He killed my father and being mated to him my mother also died. I ran to earth and hid for five years.

“Samael is not going to be happy to know I have wasted such great powers on a mortal. But this is better. He won’t have my powers now.

“I am sorry for dragging you into this mess.

“There is only one way to end the terror. My father was the safe keeper of a weapon, the dagger that can kill Samael. But the dagger can be operated by a mythical character that doesn’t exist. Legend has it that the dagger can be used by the strongest Angel in all of creation and only he can discover how to use it.” Cassandra stopped.

“Angels may be higher up in honour in the eyes of the Lord but He loves us more. We may not be able to tap into His consciousness but He answers us through prayers. You derive your knowledge from Him but have no faith in His Justice. We keep our faith in him and bask in His glory. Still are you ashamed of me Cassie? Are you ashamed because I am of lower stature in your eyes? Is that it? Or is it the power?” Ray asked.

“I am ashamed of myself for being the cause of your death.”

“Well as far as I can see I am alive and whatever future you do see God has the power to change. All you need to do is get down on your knees and pray. Can you pray for a weakling like me? Do you see me as a pet?”

“Initially I saw all humans as pets.”

“Do you see me as a pet Cassie?”

“Sometimes I do.”

“Can you pray for a pet?”

“I do not pray Ray. I am cursed but I do not feel that connection with that God of yours”

“Oh! I do not have a monopoly on God. And as you mentioned your people brought us closer to God in the first place. I pity your lack of faith Cassie. All you really need to do is close your eyes and surrender to His will. Still praying gives you a direction to act on. The action is yours.  Am I allowed to see the dagger?”

Cassie nodded and brought back a crystal decorated with Gold along the edges. Along with the dagger she brought the white star. “Our family was meant to be the carrier. We were to give this to the saviour. But the magic gets transmitted through families. There is no family that controls light. The family of Af was put down by God himself for He felt it too great a power for an individual to control. Light gives life, destroys darkness, fear and deception. Light is the power of truth of redemption. It surpasses all other powers and there is now no hope.”

“Maybe your saviour won’t be an angel. Maybe God has something else in store”

“He has to be born with the power and understanding only an Angel might possess. Ray. I hope he is not too late.”

“You put too much faith on your kind.”

“So do you and foolishly at that. I have to go to Samael. Will you keep these safe with you?”

“I won’t let you go to him.”

This conversation was futile. She could delude herself with her petty logic fuelled with fear but Ray Sutherland would have none of it. She had to hurt the mortal she loved in order to let him live. “You can’t stop me. You don’t have any right over me. You are a petty human Ray. You will die in a few years and I am an almost immortal. I have an eternity lying before me which I won’t waste being your wife.” She cried out. She hoped Ray did not notice the tears in her eyes or the hopelessness in them. But it worked. Ray was hurt and what he said next was what she had hoped for.

“Ok. Go to your lover. He will give you what you want. Still I’ll wait for you for my paltry human lifetime Cassie. I will. By the way, you said you were a healer. What does that mean?”

“I heal the sick by my touch. I can cure any illness. I healed your father too.”

“Come with me then. Heal my friend and you are free to leave immediately.”

Ray had lost the battle for love. Cassie deserved Samael. They were both suited for each other in their own conceited ways. What mattered foremost were now his friends and his world.

Stanley was in a critical state. The fact that he was alive after the ordeal he went through was in itself a feat. The doctors did not have much hope for him. He had been on life support since the moment he had reached there. The doctors had wanted to admit Ray also to check for dehydration and frost bite for his stay in the desert but preliminary test proved he was completely healthy. When Ray entered Stanley’s room, his old friend did not stir. Ray pointed him out to Cassie who went over and touched him.

Ray saw with his own eyes as the blisters and wounds disappeared and Stanley’s vital signs returned to normal. It was difficult to accept a miracle through his scientific mind. He wanted to ask her how she did it but he was simply grateful. That was when Cassie explained herself. “Our DNA structure is different from yours and so is our energy signature. Every material body has an energy signature. Our energy signature has a very high frequency. Through touch we may force your energy signature to oscillate with our frequency leading to an increase in energy circulation. That energy circulation dramatically speeds up healing and cleansing of your body systems.”

“That is a great way of healing. Let your body heal itself and just give it a push.” Ray concluded. Cassie nodded and saw Stanley coming to. When he opened his eyes he pulled open the oxygen machine and sat up. The electrodes embedded I his skin popped open and he felt pain. “Ouch. What happened?” He asked seeing Ray.

“An accident is what happened. Don’t you remember?” Ray asked. Stanley sat for a while and then said, “The Creature came.” Ray nodded and looked at Cassie. Cassie knew the look. He was accusing her of drawing their planet in a lover’s tiff and breaking his heart in the process.

Suddenly the room turned cold and Cassie shivered. Ray moved over to Stanley and started loosening the electrodes. “We have to go now. Samael is almost here. “Turning to Cassie he asked, “You are staying?” Cassie nodded.

Ray handed Stanley some clothes he had brought for him and soon they were out of the room. Cassie watched as the man she loved walked away from her. With every step he took misery overtook her. Her heart was breaking and an Angel with a broken heart manifests no power. She was sitting ducks for Samael. But she took comfort in the fact that Ray would be at least safe.
