Co-presenter Robin Williams ad-libbed in the middle of his performance to acknowledge Foster’s entrance. “Jodie Foster,” he called out, “Thank you for wearing those two napkins, they’re beautiful.” People laughed, but it was a comedic description of how stunned the audience was about her poise and beauty.
While you may shrink back at the idea of using a showbiz method, trust that you can still make use of the approach in real life.
It’s more than just smiling, standing tall, shoulders back, chin held high. It’s not so much about the physical poise or movement than it is about your thoughts. You have to internalize the thought that you have the power to make yourself attractive, in an instant. Focus on internalizing this first, before anything else. As any good actor or dancer will tell you, your poise will spring naturally from what you have internalized.
And it’s not about striking an attention-getting pose or adopting an “attitude”. (This isn’t high school anymore.) It’s all about having a subtle but deep change of thinking from within, reflecting on your behavior and appearance. You have to
believe that the real you has the subtle power to attract people to yourself. It’s the warmth of your unique personality, and
the depth of your character, that will generate this power.
Start practicing! Try it whenever you enter a crowded place—a park, a street, a shop or restaurant, an office—
