Take for instance David’s case. For the longest time, this

 

42- year old independent film director-producer kept a hideous mullet hairdo and beard.

It didn’t help that he had a prematurely receding hairline. Friends and family loved David’s good-natured ways, but their jokes about his “pet hedgehog” were standard fare. They liked to say the hedgehog seemed to attract only cougars and old foxes (older, desperate women)—which was why David never married.

One day, a gay actor friend bluntly said, “David, give that animal resting on your head up for adoption. You are balding. Give it all up.” Of course he was joking, and everyone else in the room had a laugh.

But David suddenly thought to himself, not a bad idea.

 

The next day the filmmaker stared at himself in the mirror, long and hard. He had indeed grown older, with some lines on his cheeks and eyes. He had also developed a sharp-looking jaw line.

Inspired, David hurried over to the nearby barber shop. “Shave it all off,” he told the barber. “The hair, the

beard. Everything.”

 

It was a drastic move. But as soon as he had gone completely bald, Wilhelm’s true, handsome face appeared.

“You look like Patrick Stewart, man!” the barber laughed. “Chicks will dig that!”
