“Sure, no problem, I have a wee sister as well, I know the feeling.”

We hung up as the taxi was driving us down the road, passing people who looked like they were on their way out somewhere, to a bar or a restaurant or a show. Some of them were loud and I knew those loud ones would either be quiet later on from having drunk too much or be even louder and possibly singing down the streets of Edinburgh.

The taxi stopped right outside Spiers bar. I asked him to stay there before opening the door and rushing into the bar. I saw Emma almost immediately as I walked in, she was quite near the front door. A woman in her 20s with red hair and porcelain skin was standing next to her and holding her hand under Emma’s arm to steady her.

“Emma!” I rushed over, part of me wanted to hug her, just knowing she was alright, but another part of me wanted to yell at her for being so irresponsible. In the end I just stopped in front of her. She didn’t look me in the eyes. Her head hanging low, like a dog with its tail between its legs.

I looked at the woman holding her arm.

“Hi, I’m Alex, Emma’s worried sick sister.” I said laughing a little sarcastically. The woman just smiled at me.

“I’m Susan. Hope you’re sister is OK,” she said looking questionably at Emma.

“She’ll be fine. I really appreciate you keeping an eye on her.”

“Oh gosh, you’re welcome, no problem! She’s been rather entertaining actually.”
