were heavier than usual. I finally saw a red cup in the sand and a water hose beside it. As I picked it up I noticed that it was half filled with sand so I poured water in it first to wash it out. I quickly poured more water into the mug when it looked fairly clean and started drinking. I drank another, a third, fourth and fifth cup and still I couldn’t quench my thirst, so I put the hose in my mouth and just drank as much as I could, letting the cool water fill my mouth and travel down my throat, but the thirst never went away. I frowned, feeling frustrated.

All of a sudden I realized that there was a road just a couple of yards from me. It was busy, full of commuters in all sorts of cars looking like they were tired from a day’s work at the office or general life tiring activities. They simply looked beat. It was strange that I hadn't noticed the road until now, it’s as if it had just appeared.

There was a crossroads just up ahead. On the other side of the road there were fields, and beyond that city lights shone far off in the distance. I could see a red Toyota driving up one of the streets to the main road. It didn’t seem to be slowing down. The driver looking at something in his hand, a mobile phone, his gaze wasn’t on the road where it should have been. I turned my head back to the busy road as things started moving in slow motion. A red wet leaf floating slowly past my ear was the only thing I heard, that and my own breathing. Everything else had slowed down but me.

The red car wasn't slowing down, and the cars on the busy road couldn't see it due to the trees on either side of the smaller street. I started running towards the red car shouting for it to slow down, but the people in the car couldn't hear me. I looked to the busy main road and saw a black Audi getting really close to the crossing. If it
