His feet were also bare.

We started walking towards the lake, we didn’t talk for a while, we just enjoyed the walk.

“It’s very peaceful here,” he said. “I haven’t seen anyone else around. Seems like it’s just you and me.”

I hadn’t thought of that until he mentioned it, but it was true. I couldn’t see anyone, there were no signs of people living nearby, no houses, no roads, all I could hear was the breeze of the wind, birds singing and the water against the small stone shore by the lake.

“Yeah, you’re right, guess we have it all to ourselves,” I said with a twinkle in my eye. He smiled and said: “I don’t mind if you don’t.”

I gave him a shy smile.

We walked to the lake. I dipped my toe in the water. It was just warm enough and so magnificently clear. I saw a few small fish with vivid colours swimming a few feet away. Without thinking I took a few quick steps in the lake then dived in. Oh the feel of the water made me feel light and warm. I came up to the surface again and saw that Peter had dived in as well. He swam up to me.

“That looked like a lot of fun so I had to follow your lead,” he said and laughed happily.

“It was too tempting! Isn’t this amazing?” I said as I dove down beneath the surface again. I was swimming so fast and all around, the fish didn’t seem to mind. I saw Peter swimming beside me, also swimming fast and swift without looking like he was making an effort. We swam up to the surface again and in towards the shore. As we got up our clothes seemed to dry almost immediately.

“That was fun,” he said.

As I looked at him I felt all warm, I couldn’t take my eyes off him, as if a magnetic pull was forcing me in his
