desk. I had barely looked at the computer as the door flew open with what seemed to be a pair of legs with flowers for a head, or to be more specific, a delivery guy was dropping off flowers. It was a big bouquet and he held it in front of him, hiding his face. I assumed they’d be for Christine, who had come half running out of her office with a smile on her face and rosy cheeks.

“Oh how lovely!” she said looking like a child at Christmas.

I’d never seen Christine look like that before. The delivery man looked up as he put the flowers on the desk.

“Alexandra Walker?” he asked looking at Christine. “What?” Christine looked confused and a bit annoyed. “I’m Alexandra,” I said, looking confused as well. I

looked at the note in the bouquet of pink roses, oriental lilies and germinis. It read, ’To Alex, something to cheer up your day. Looking forward to Friday. Love/Dave.’

The first thought when I saw the bouquet was not of Dave, but that would be the obvious person that might send me flowers. I never got sent flowers, it felt nice, although I didn’t want to show Christine that I was even remotely happy about it. She did not look happy anymore. The delivery man had walked out and she looked at me.

“Oh, I didn’t realize you had an admirer Alex.”

“Oh it’s nothing really, it’s a guy I’ve just met, he’s just trying to impress me a little I suppose.”

I was trying not to make a big deal of it, it seemed obvious that Christine was hoping they had been for her. Which made me think. Maybe she had someone special in her life now, it would explain why she’d been acting a bit strange recently, and by strange I mean happier.

“Right, well make sure they get water, wouldn’t want to ruin such a lovely display.” There was no warmth in
