I don't know how I slept or if I even did. The night was feverish and delirious. My lips still charred with the memory of his kiss. It was like I had been poisoned. The venom was running through my veins making my body ache for his presence.
I wished I could blame one of his potions, or his magic, but at this point, I knew that was impossible. It was just me, stupid me who had something inside that was wrong and hot for him. For the umpteenth time, I woke up and stared up at my ceiling, restless. The pills had failed me.
Elle was exuberant and radiant, her lips redder than ever, her hair shinier, her skin glowing. Brie and Gabe tried to calm her down, but my Id was fully awake and going strong.
Brie took it out on Gabe.
"This is your fault!" She accused. "The girl has starved so much that a jerk has managed to throw her off balance. We weren't supposed to let this happen!" Gabe took offense at that.
"Me? You were the one who was always saying no and finding a defect in every single guy within a ten mile radius. Isn't this your fault? You were supposed to protect us all, guard us from mistakes. It's not my fault that you overdid it."
"I just do my job," Brie retorted. "You were the ones obeying me all the time, maybe because it was the easiest thing to do...lazy."
"I'll show you what lazy means!" Gabe replied.
The cat fight was on, but Elle was having no part in it. She was on cloud nine, totally unaware of everything. Just my body singing to the tune of the blood simmering inside my veins.
Once Brie and Gabe finished duking it out, they calmed down and talked. Eventually, they reached a compromise:
"It's Elle's fault."
They tied her down and placed her in chains.
There was a dark place inside my mind. Where things that were not good for me were kept until I managed to control them -or until they withered and died on their own, or so I hoped. It was represented by a sarcophagus. Golden and big like Tutankhamen's. Interestingly enough it looked a lot like my Chest of Shame.
"It suits the concept."
Elle was a liability - my Id unleashed was going to destroy us all, I couldn't let that happen.
"What?!" Elle screeched panicking, getting dragged in by the other two sides of myself. "Let me go!"
"Sorry, sister," Brie said grimly. "You're out of control. We need you tightly bound."
"We need William for the Nobel Prize and the world needs us for saving it from Sekeem. We can't stop seeing him. And since we can't control him, YOU have to locked up...For the moment at least." She explained. "We need to make sure he doesn't think his sick game has affected us at all." Brie did her duty, cold as usual but Gabe shook a look of sadness to our passionate sister and touched her face trying to comfort her.
"I will let you out as soon as is safe. I'm sorry we have to do this to you again."
They closed the lid on the part of my psyche that I feared the most. Elle's last gesture was her tears falling down her face.
The choice was made and I felt a bit better. When the new day broke, I felt confident
