RITU KAKAR

We travelled around for another hour to all my favourite spots with Rahul. It was all thought out by Aashi who knew of them from all our late night talks. They also took me to our old house where I think they got some reaction but not what they were hoping for. I later found out that the last destination was the risk dad and Aashi were avoiding. It was the one place where they knew had maximum risk, a place which could break or make me “MY OFFICE”.

But with nothing else left that is where they headed at last.

The minute we approached my office I started getting tense and nervous.

“Dad can we do this some other time. I am tired and having a severe headache. I promise we will come again and talk to my bosses for my job. Right now I just want to go home please.”

Hearing me talking especially so many words at a stretch made dad even more adamant to take me to the decided destination. Even Aashi supported dad.

“No Mira di we need to do this today so that you start work asap. Knowing you once you are back home getting you out could be an impossible task.”

“But I am promising you that we will come tomorrow.”

Just then dad turned to my office building, I became totally still and tensed. When he stopped the car, I held the door tight resisting him and trying to stop him from opening the door 114

but he held on strong and with Aashi’s help pulled me out.

“Dad I don’t want to go in there. If you want me to work I will look for another job, I will do whatever you say please let’s go back home now. I don’t want to go in there dad please don’t make me.”

I turn to Aashi for support but she had tears running down her cheeks which just added to my panic. Just then dad softly whispered close to my ears holding me tight in his embrace -

“I know this is tough in fact the toughest thing you have ever done but it is time to face the reality, it is time to accept what has gone and move ahead now sweetheart. He too would want that.”

He tugged me along with love and care all the while I continued to look at him with a blank face. All of a sudden, I felt something move behind him, hearing some noise I pushed my dad aside and started shouting and screaming like a banshee.

I kept shouting asking Rahul to move screaming out loud

“no… no… no…” while running. Then I stopped and stood still calling out to Rahul with my hand stretched out. I slowly fainted in the exact same place where Rahul had taken his last breath.

The moment I fell to the ground dad and Aashi rushed to me. Aashi quickly checked my pulse and called her senior to let him know they were bringing me in. Dad picked me with love and care and drove me to the doctor waiting. There I was admitted immediatly and given medicines while being monitored.
