Chapter 38: Alphas
Two judges from each pack around middle age were selected. The first seven movement judges sat towards the middle of the circle. They were placed to judge their contestant. The second seven judges sat in front of their contestant to judge the one to the left of the opposite side of the circle. Once everyone was in place and knew who to watch, Kam let the fighters pick cards based on their packs seniority.
Most got the command right the first time. The first to go was nervous so screwed that one up. They improved their score on the second try. The other lost a few on the second try. The top three pack's fighters nailed everyone. The other four fighters only got the bottom five pack's fighters.
Bow's fighter was the youngest of the three so became their alpha. Lincoln's fighter became Winchester's alpha. Pelham's fighter got the Holderness pack. Colebrook's fighter got his own pack.
Kam invited Amy to join his pack or to travel between both packs. His mom joined in that conversation as they have become close. Amy having lost both husband and son in the war did not look forward to being in Bow with her living younger daughters so accepted.
The Bow pack left the next morning, while Pelham followed them. Given there was enough time, Colebrook left towards dinner time. The packs with new alphas assumed they could learn the job over time. Though Kam gave the best four hour training he could, after the competition.
The two packs with a foreign alpha wanted time to learn about each other before accepting the change. If they meshed well, they would keep him. Otherwise, they would use their own. They figured one would be alpha and the other beta. Both fighters and Kam were fine with this decision.
Though Kam would have rather gotten his fighter back as his beta. He was okay with the second place fighter becoming beta. He did not mention this to either wolf.
Kam ordered two more buses so next time transfers can move faster. He hired a construction company his company manager recommended to clear the fire damage. He called the insurance company to move the claim along that Chris had started.
He took control of the corporations the bears used. He had his bears, that were training as fighters, with his second best fighter, check out each property or business, for drugs or bodies, before selling them all, for losses to the previous owner, and donating the profits to drug rehabilitation facilities. A few bodies showed up along with drug production labs. All the missing police officers and relatives of various business owners were found. They all got cremated as no missing persons reports were filed.
