The increasing importance of energy in modern life and the global growth of energy consumption was the reason that appealed to the author to examine in deep the energy consumption of the UK. In this book the UK's energy system is principally investigated, including the energy production and resources and the energy use indicators, the market and prices. The international energy production and use is being examined along with the UK's government energy policy and the energy role in the economy and in relation with the environment. The acceleration in energy use around the world has led the International Energy Agency to forecast an increase in world energy demand of two-thirds by 2020. The task for governments is to match the need to protect the environment with the demand for economic growth, closely related with rising energy consumption. In order to make this happen countries should integrate activities that focus on creating and applying new solutions achieving balanced improvements to the energy, environmental and economic performance and thereby contribute towards a sustainable future for the citizens.
