Ordinary time measuring devices have a round dial and rotating hands. In some cases this might be inconvenient for the application involved. The idea occurred to me to make an electrical clock driven by a DC motor with a battery supply involving a non-traditional mechanical transmission and indicating dial. A motor is connected to the shaft of a centrifugal rotation speed regulator. This regulator could be installed provided the energy supply source is powerful enough [4].
A rotation speed control transmission follows comprising gears and ending in a shaft from which the movement is transmitted to the dial unit. The issue could be solved by means of a double ratchet gear with the direction of saw teeth of the first opposite to the direction of saw teeth of the second and involving a doublearm ratchet bar engaged with one of the gears on one side or the other ratchet gear on the other side [4]. The purpose of this is to have the axle of the ratchet gears rotating a reversible dial hand along a two-scale dial.
One difficulty is solved in this arrangement introducing a fork-shaped arm which switches the double arm of the ratchet clutch to the respective ratchet gear in the end positions of the hands. A shifting spring would be needed for the purpose. We have to install a tensioned coil spring under the ratchet arm [4]. Setting the transmission in motion is by means of a washer with eccentric on the ratchet clutch.
The final arrangement is made for the figure fastening the switching forkshaped arm to the axle of the hands. The dial comprises two arch-shaped scales where the reading is performed from the left to the right.
