#18. Teens Using Designer Drugs

Designer drugs are quickly catching up and replacing the yesteryears marijuana and opium craze. More than 60% of drug abusers are teenagers. The number is alarming and is increasing at a fast pace. It is important for parents to keep a watch over their teen. It is also impossible for law enforcement to prevent the sale of drugs available in different concoctions.

Drugs have been around since the times of ancient Mesopotamia. In the US, it all started in the mid-19th century when Chinese immigrants brought opium to America. Opium dens became popular in Chinatown which later spread to the New York City.

Finding out that their teenager is using drugs can be shocking for any parent. Under such circumstances, it is essential to deal with the entire situation delicately. Keeping an eye on the activities and behavior changes will be helpful for a parent to detect presence of anxiety or depression in the first stages. Most kids are dependent on drugs due to a bad family connection or due to depression. Parents should build a family connection in order to prevent the teenager from falling prey to drugs.

It is also essential for a parent to keep an eye on the people that the teenager hangs out with. Creating a comfortable environment in the house is essential to make it easy for the teenager to discuss their problems with their parents. This will also be helpful for the teenager to speak openly with their parents when they feel depressed.

Designer drugs are becoming popular across different parts of the globe. These are readily available substances created in the lab by a chemist. Spice and ecstasy are the most famous designer drugs. They have the same effect as marijuana, opium and amphetamines.

Law enforcement authorities are finding it difficult to address the situation. Experts in the field of education are pushing to add drug problems into the curriculum. Though most parents are unaware of designer drugs, authorities are urging them to study these drugs over the Internet.

Understanding the effects of designer drugs and observing the signs of abuse will be helpful for a parent. They should talk openly with their teen kids about drug abuse. By having complete understanding of consequences are related with drug abuse, it is possible for parents to prevent it from occurring to their loved ones. Education, support, care and affection from the parent are important for handling the situation in a delicate manner. Providing all the required help at the right stage will bring back the teenager to his normal state.
