#31. How Drugs are Taking Heavy Toll on Teenagers

Drug abuse is taking its toll on many individuals. Teenagers are often found to be addicted to different drugs. The use  of painkillers is also leading to addiction.

Prescription medicines are widely available in the market. Teenagers are finding different ways to buy illicit drugs. Officials are concerned about the rising numbers. It has become impossible for law enforcement to provide a proper protection or eliminate the availability of drugs on the black market. As the sources are unknown, it is becoming difficult to trace the original source of illicit drugs.

Teenagers are usually prone to drug abuse when they are in the state of depression. For a parent, it is important to keep a watch on their teenager in order to prevent the occurrence of drug abuse. There are different ways in which parents can notice the change in the behavior pattern of the teenager.

A depressed teenager often finds solace in drugs. This is a major concern as children are finding it difficult to speak with their parents freely or openly. It is necessary for parents to create a friendly environment at home that helps build a good family connection. When there is a good family connection, a teenager will never take the help of drugs in order to overcome anxiety or depression.

Parents who are suspicious about their teenager using drugs can now perform a home test to confirm this. There are three different types of home test kits available in the market. It is important for a parent to do the test in order to discover the presence of drug abuse. Urine, saliva and hair follicle tests are the different formats of the drug tests.

Observing the behavior pattern of the child will also be helpful for a parent to become suspicious about drug abuse. A teenager who uses drugs often feels dizziness, headache, has glazed eyes, breathing complications, coughing, and sweating and weight loss. Their appetite and sleep patterns also change drastically.

Drug diversion is important for a parent to bring their teen kid back to normal. Apart from creating a friendly environment, it is also important to create family bonding. This will be helpful for the teenager to approach their parents and speak directly about a problem or the reason behind their depressive state. Seeking professional help at times is also helpful for parents when they want bring their drug using teenager back to his normal life for good.
