#32. How Drug Abuse Destroys Lives

The catastrophic situation of man being killed by what he himself created has been widely accepted; so much so that it no longer raises eyebrows or drops jaws. A drug that was initially made to help mankind can be and is used for destroying mankind itself. While the wheels of time go round and round without stopping, man continues to rush to self-destruction, opting to use his knowledge to devastate his own talent.

Drug abuse is an issue that has gained immense importance  recently. However, it has been around for much longer and did not just appear in the last few years. It has been a problem since man realized that pleasure can be delivered by a single gulp of alcohol or a single sniff of heroin.

Drug abuse is an uncontrolled phenomenon. Drugs are easy to find due to the smuggling of banned products like opium and heroin. There is a multitude of others, of which marijuana, alcohol, cocaine and nicotine are worth mentioning. Though their use might be occasional in some hospitals, this use is strictly under therapeutic doses and used only to relieve the patient of the pain of the most severe kind. In general, the use of drugs leads to addiction and eventual dependence on the drug to an extent that the person might commit a crime to obtain the drug they are addicted to.

There are a few classic signs of drug addiction that appear with every drug. A drug addict will show an emaciated, possibly filthy appearance; the skin will look older than it really is; eyes will be red and pupils dilated; there might be an offensive odor in the breath as well. Irritability becomes second nature while laziness becomes the routine.

Money extravaganza becomes a habit. When such signs appear, know that your loved one needs help. Scrutinize any new friends or the previous ones for similar changes. Note any depression that may have led to drug abuse. Some people will jump into the clutches of this mafia for the sole purpose of looking cool, a perception that will most easily be perceived by the parents since they know their child’s  personality best.

If your child has fallen victim to drug abuse, the only solution is to demonstrate your love and affection fully. A pat on the back to show that you are there to help him or her out will work wonders. Save your child from the influence of the crime on the streets; protect them from the filth of depression and dejection. If necessary, seek medical help. But do not delay the cure: the longer the span of drug abuse, the worse it becomes.
