The Enchanted Door

Back in the 1880s a woman by the name of Minerva Moone who was a witch, and she was last witches in her family she was only who survived the Salem witch trials, she had fled before her whole entire family was hung for being witches. She had a Victorian custom built by a local builder who was new to the area and had a business in town. This house was enormous, it was beautiful with it’s gingerbread trim, the pretty wood spindles and railing that went all around the house with a wrap around porch that was hand made by a carpenter. The inside was just as gorgeous as the outside it had gorgeous Victorian lighting that had stained glass, the windows were huge and went from the floor to the ceiling, it had wainscoting, the banister and railing was hand carved; and the rooms were big and spacious. Some of the rooms though led no where, while the other had steps that led up to the ceiling then stopped, that was the stairway to heaven and another door that when you opened it there was a wall there. This house was particularly special, Minerva had a custom door carved and hand made by the local carpenter, and it was the most beautiful door ever made, the carvings were so intricate, and the design was out this world, the window in the door had stained glass to match was in the house. This was ordinary until the day it was installed in the witch’s house then all that changed in a blink of an eye the day after it was installed. On the night of Halloween, which considered witch’s eve there was a severe thunderstorm worst one that was ever recorded in history, Minerva pulled out her spell book which had been in her family for generations, she stood in front the door in a pentagram and began repeating the magic spells, the candles all around her began to blow slightly as if a breezy wind had come through an opened window, there swirls of colors, it was every color of the rainbow, at first the colors were beautiful but quickly changed to dark and gray; she continued the spell but this the wind grew stronger blowing out the candles before the candles blew three black, dark,  malevolent spirits came out of the ceiling in the form of mist and they were flying around the room growling, and hissing, their eyes were slanted and were the red and had the look malice, anger, and hatred. The magic had gone straight to the door causing to be enchanted. The huge gust of wind made the door slam open making Minerva jump with fright, she continued the spell this time she added chanting as chanted she heard a deep evil laugh come through it shook her rattling her to bones. She knew that laugh all too well, she has heard time and time again especially as a young witchling when she watched her mothers and sisters do spells. Inside the door there was a whole another realm, there was a swirling circle, and it looked a portal it was a world that looked a whole lot like hers except it had ghosts and spirits walking around. Minerva had only seen the spirit world once when she had to go through the seven trials of being a witch and when she was placed under a dead spell and was sent to the spirit world she had to find her way out before her time was up and died for real. She hated the spirt world for so many reasons but loved at the same time she had met past generations of her family that were witches. The wind grew more strong knocking Minerva off her feet, more spirits appeared, one she’d never seen before it grabbed her and pulled into the spirit she screamed and yelled an incantation but it didn’t help this spirt was too powerful even for Minerva to control, the more she’d fight the tighter the demon would hold on to her, before Minerva got pulled in she placed a spell on the book so it was safe and it was hidden in her room in the floor that looked a little safe. It yanked her in the door slammed shut behind and it locked itself forever. It was a year later, and the Victorian house lay empty and now was up for sale, the house was immaculate and empty except for the furniture and the witch’s book that left behind. The house got bought by a young family that went by name of Lombardy’s who had fallen in love with the house and the property. It had a huge front yard and back yard for the kids to play in and lots of trees for the kids to climb, it the yard had a cute picket fence that went all around the property and it was very secluded and it sat on the edge of town which was nice because the town was within walking distance or just a short carriage ride. Not long after moving into the house the Lombardy’s started experiencing weird things like hearing muffled voices, knocking, stomping, footsteps, and the kids have sworn to hear someone doing spells. Now the kids being young and curious loved to explore the house and play hide and seek and one day they came across the enchanted door, now when they touched the knob to try and opened the door it would hot to the touch and when the kids told their parents about the door the mom and dad thought it was odd to have a door this lovely to be in this house, they thought this door led to the outside for they didn’t know this door led to a whole another realm. They all could see the magic permeating from the door making it mystical and magical and oh so tempting to open, and since the door was enchanted it talked as well as being magical and it said, “open me, there’s a key hidden this house go and find and open me.” Little did the Lombardy family know that it wasn’t the door that was really talking it was an evil spirit that lived in the spirit world and it was taunting and teasing the Lombardy family. The Lombardy family stood there in awe as this door in front just spoke to them. “How odd, Mr. and Mrs. Lombardy said in unison.” The kids had run off to go find the key and search every room of the house and in the master bedroom where the witch’s spell book was the key was hidden the kids try to open the book but the book wouldn’t let them, they tried and tried countless times and nothing; so they took it to their parents and the father tried opening it first and nothing and then mother took it and opened it with no problem, now the thing with Mrs. Lombardy is that she’s a witch she a descendant of Minerva Moone, she is the biological daughter and was given up by her mother and was some how drawn to this house and this enchanted door. Sometimes at night she’d dream of a beautiful witch that looked just like her and she’d sometimes call out her name, her family found it odd that she was the only that could open the witch’s book and then she was able to undo the spell her mother cast over the book. As a witch she knew exactly what to do. She made her family leave the room and the house she kissed her family goodbye and locked herself in and began reversing the spell: first she laid the candles counter clockwise, and she began chanting in reverse, then she repeated the spell backwards, a breeze of wind came in and came swirling around the room, the there were swirls of colors they looked the rainbow, they different because everything was happening in reverse, the wind got stronger, she took the key and placed gently in the lock and it slowly opened, she peeked in being ever so careful and what she saw she couldn’t believe her eyes it was a whole other realm it looked like hers but different; she heard a voice call out for help it alarmed her a bit could it be someone in need or could it be a spirit toying with her? She didn’t know what to do, so she made a snap decision to step into the realm, it sucked her making her hair blow back and it took her breath away, she turned around looking at her world, it looked so different so far away. She put a spell on the door to keep it open so she could return back to her world, she walked through looking at the spirits and ghosts that passed by she could feel eyes on her it felt evil and she felt it hit her soul giving her the willies but she continued on. Then she heard the voice again cry out “help me please” Mrs. Lombardy followed the voice till it took her to an old abandoned building; the voice cried out again this time sounding louder, she followed it until it lead her to a room with a cage and there she was, her mother she never had met her mother the mother she’d ever known past away at young age of thirty from cholera, her adopted father had left and was raised by her grandmother. Minerva saw her daughter in front of her and began to cry, “oh Lillian, how I missed you my sweet daughter, I’m so sorry for giving you up all those years ago.” Now Lillian didn’t recognize her mother she was only baby, but she had felt drawn to her. “Now don’t worry I’m here to save I drawn here, and I had to come. Be careful my sweet daughter, Minerva continued, there is a strong evil spirit here that guard’s me.” Just then the room shook as if there was a thunderstorm and thunder shook the very building they were in, Lillian screamed in terror. The spirit was tall, dark, and very evil but when it showed its true form it looked like the devil himself. He growled and hissed at Lillian and she taken aback, that didn’t stop her she yelled an incantation that sent him straight back to hell, he hiss and growled before disappearing. Minerva was shocked that her daughter had become such a strong witch just like her, she grabbed the key from where it was hidden and unlocked the cage. She grabbed her mom’s hand and said “run”, that spirit won’t be gone for long, so they ran through the spirit world looking back making sure they weren’t being followed, and just as they made through the door the devil and showed trying to grab both them. Minerva and her daughter both took out the witch’s book said an incantation which closed the portal to the spirit world forever, and the door once again become normal and Minerva and her family lived happily in the house for a very long time.
