Kathy meets Pete

After all, Susan was a reputable, competent, dedicated and valued employee at the firm. And her firm missed her badly. Many of her office colleagues came over to her place bugging her to rejoin. But Susan did not give in and refused to have anything to do with them. So feeling disheartened and subdued, they all left. The next day some of them returned and started spying on her as well.

It was during this time Kathy met Pete. They got introduced to each other and gradually became intimate. Susan knew on instant that Kathy and Pete were together from hearing their voices in the background. In fact, she was too familiar with their voices.

On the other hand, Pete and Kathy together started to keep an eye on Susan and spy on her day and night. It had become their daily routine. They even rented an apartment nearby and lived together for much of their time. But their main target and burning desire was that Susan would become broke and come back to the firm crying. They wanted her to fall to the ditches and become helpless and weep. But Susan was headstrong and did none of that. She remained strong and steady and stuck to the following quote. In fact, she loved quotes and to ponder on them. Here is the one that was currently on her mind:

One who has health has hope;

One who has hope has everything.”

~ Thomas Carlyle
