Book Description HTML
Five different stories with different principal characters give a taste of the life in Egypt a few years back. "A Thousand and One Nights" is a doomed romance between a Greek man and an Egyptian woman. "Chez Raymond" is the story of a young, talented Coptic hairdresser. "The Sporting Life" describes the life of a young man who failed in his studies abroad and tries to adapt back home. "A Case of Self Respect" is the love affair between a young man and a woman whose Communist husband was executed as a spy. "Letters to Dr. Fatthi" is the hopeless romance of two psychologically troubled persons. Apart from the innate interest of their plots the stories reflect the mores and culture of Moslems, Copts and members of the foreign communities in Egypt and the Middle East.
