Cat Tale 20: Old King Freddy

How about going over a few health details? Even though I never reviewed any feline medical research and the related sophisticated data in my days of kitty classes, I can at least offer you some basic information regarding our care.

For example and to start out with, you might ask yourself, “How long does the average cat live?” Good question! Well, I think you humans have got us beat by a long way when it comes to longevity. We can’t even begin to compete with the number of years that you hang around in your home territories.

Ignoring the more independent and non-domesticated types of my species, kitties like me who prefer the indoors more than the outdoors while living with the humans average 12 to 14 years for the males, and the females among us often add on a couple of years more.

A few of us make it into the 20s, and I heard that one of the oldest known cats lived to be 30 something! Wow, that seems to me like a real old-timer, wouldn’t you say!

It makes me wonder what it would be like for me to be 30 something. Would I still have all my razor-sharp, well-aligned set of teeth, or would my mouth be full of those crowns and bridges that I see the older humans have?

You know what? If I had a bunch of those crowns, especially the gold ones, maybe they’d call me King Freddy! Yeah, I could handle that. No problem.

I’d be a strong ruler, yet known for my good-natured character, fair treatment, and kindness while watching over and taking care of my followers. “All hail King Freddy!” they would say. Hey, I like that.
