DESCRIPTION AND SYMBOLISM
The Archangel of the Sun stands astride a pool of clear water that has flown upward from the inner depths. In his hand he holds two golden cups, the lower cup symbolizing the watery lunar power of the Inner Consciousness and the upper cup symbolizing the solar power of the Self Consciousness. Between the two cups flows a vibrating current of water which illustrates the balance between energy and matter and between Spirit and flesh that is necessary in the life of the individual to nurture and sustain the inner process of attaining consciousness through moderating and balancing the relationship between the inner psyche and the outer conscious self. This relationship helps the individual maintain both mental and emotional balance and harmony between the body and the psyche and transforms both, thus opening the way to a higher and more meaningful life. The Archangels one foot is firmly planted on the land while the other is halfway immersed in the pristine waters revealing that it is simultaneously of both worlds, of Matter and of Spirit. Beside the pool stands a growth of flowers sacred to Isis, the Goddess of the Rainbow, symbolizing that the colors of the rainbow are the manifestation of the unity of the pure Divine light shining within creation. Over the Angel’s heart is placed the golden fire triangle enclosed within the white square of earth, symbolizing the fire of Spirit revealing itself through matter. On his forehead is centered a solar disk whose power radiates into his golden hair and outward into a halo of white light uniting him with the Divine Light that informs all life. Leading from the pool is a path that leads to a radiant golden crown floating in the distance between the two mountain peaks that symbolize Wisdom and Understanding. This crown reveals the goal of all true spiritual development, the crown of the highest attainment, union with the Divine Light. Temperance invokes an atmosphere of equilibrium and moderation in which all aspects of being come into balance and the psychic waters of life flow in unity and harmony.
