UCHE

It seems like yesterday when Amara and I were in university and now she is having a baby.

(looks at Chioma) Just seems surreal.

It is the word ‘baby’ that leaves Chioma with the oddest of feelings, as her face wrinkles in pain. Uche burns her with a quick sharp glance that suggests that he equally knows the word broke her heart.

JUMP CUT TO:

INT. ROOM 7, WING C, ST. NICHOLAS HOSPITAL - CONTINUOUS

Femi trains his attention on Chioma, as she speaks into the Recorder, lost in deep thoughts.

CHIOMA

I could not explain why or how, but my heart broke when I heard the word ‘baby’ and I knew Uche knew it too. I couldn’t hide my feelings for Emeka any longer. It took complete control over me. I felt like I had just lost the most precious thing in my life even though I’d just met him a few moments ago.

DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. LEKKI-EPE EXPRESSWAY - CONTINUOUS - FLASHBACK

Uche looks back to the road ahead. In the silence of the car, on the ride home, Chioma sheds few quiet tears of loss. A few moments later, while looking at the beautiful nightlife of Lekki though the FULLY rolled-up window by her right, Chioma breaks her silence:

CHIOMA

Who’s the father?

Chioma asks, trying to fight the thought that Emeka will soon be a father.

UCHE

You like him. Don’t you?

CHIOMA

Who?

She pretends to have no idea of who Uche is referring to.
