UCHE

Emeka!

Uche lifts his voice a little too loud that it invades the air-conditioned interior of the vehicle.

CHIOMA

Why are you raising your voice at me?

UCHE

Am I raising my voice at you?

UCHE (CONT’D)

Am I raising my voice at you?

The pitch of Uche’s voice hits a new peak with each word that makes its way through his grinding teeth. Chioma is mute. Close on her face as she takes a sneak peek at Uche through the left corners of her eyes.

UCHE (O.S.) (CONT’D) You think I didn’t see the way you looked at him, and the way he looked at you. You two were so transparent.

UCHE (CONT’D)

It’s obvious that you haven’t had enough practice at secret flirting. I knew it from the moment you two saw each other. I just acted like I didn’t notice anything, hoping you would come back to your senses.

Close on a traffic light ahead as it turns RED. We see the rare exterior of the vehicle as it comes to a HALT. The RED brake lights are FULLY lit and STEADY. We return to the interior of the vehicle after it stops.

UCHE (CONT’D) Flirting with Emeka isn’t the

reason why I’m disappointed in you tonight. Once in a while these things happen, but it takes discipline to look away and honour your commitment with your partner.

UCHE (CONT’D)

But I’ve never been so humiliated in my life like I was tonight. I went down on my knee in public, and asked you to marry me in front of tens of couples on Valentine’s Day, I mean on Valentine’s Day, and you publicly rejected me.

Chioma remains mute.
