UCHE (CONT’D) (flares)

Do you even know how much that ring cost me?

Chioma vibrates in FEAR.

CHIOMA

(in a shaky voice)

I didn’t reject marrying you. I said you should give me some time to think about it.

Uche wears a smile that doesn’t suggest he is either pleased or happy.

We see a cross-section of the expressway with the car and the traffic light within. The traffic light turns GREEN but the car doesn’t move. We return to the interior of the vehicle.

UCHE (calmly)

How long would you possibly need? We have been dating for eleven months, and that’s enough for a baby to be conceived. I’ve met your family, and you have met mine. You have moved into my house. We have practically lived like married couples for three months and suddenly you need time to think about marriage to me.

UCHE (CONT’D)

What’s really going on? Tell me.

I’m a man, I can take it.

Car starts moving again.

CHIOMA

You really want to know?

UCHE

Yes, I really want to know.

CHIOMA

(sobs)

The past eleven months have been the worst months of my life, because I tried to pretend, hoping it will happen but it never did.

UCHE

Hoping what will happen?
