CHIOMA

I like you, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like him too.

EMEKA

You like me, or you love me?

CHIOMA

Why do you ask? Of what need is it? You and I may never see each other after tonight.

EMEKA

Yeah, that’s true.

Chioma is in silence. It looks like she’s pondering on what next to say.

EMEKA (CONT’D)

What are you thinking about?

CHIOMA (excited)

Why don’t we exchange numbers? That way we can make sure we meet again intentionally.

EMEKA (equally excited)

Sure, take my phone, and save your number.

Emeka reaches for his phone in his white khaki shorts.

CHIOMA

You too.

Chioma unpins her purse and pulls out her phone. They exchange phones. Standing put, they save their phone numbers on each other’s phone, and after they do, they fail to return their phones to each other.

EMEKA

So do you like me, or do you love me?

CHIOMA (shyly)

You don’t give up, do you? I thought we are pass that already.

EMEKA (confidently)

Yes, I don’t give up, and no, we aren’t pass that because you didn’t give me an answer the first time I asked.
