CHIOMA (fidgeting)

What if there is no answer? What if it’s unclear how I feel about you? What if?

EMEKA

But it isn’t. Is it?

CHIOMA

But it isn’t what?

Chioma stalls, trying to dodge the question speeding her way.

EMEKA

It isn’t unclear how you feel about me. Is it?

CHIOMA (whispers)

I... love... you.

EMEKA

What was that?

Chioma ducks in embarrassment.

CHIOMA

What was what?

EMEKA

You said something just now. What was it?

CHIOMA

Did you hear anything?

Chioma blushes, secretly wishing Emeka didn’t hear her, to save her from the embarrassment of saying those three words first.

EMEKA

You said you love me.

CHIOMA (shakes her head)

So you heard me?

EMEKA

Yeah I heard you whisper.

CHIOMA

So why are you asking me what I said?

Emeka smiles as he buttons up his beach shirt.

CHIOMA (CONT’D)

Why are you smiling?
