Why We Gain Weight

We are all different. It’s frustrating to see people who eat like a horse and never gain a single pound. In cases like this the person has a very active metabolism which breaks down and uses every calorie very quickly. These people are the exception to the rule so don't waste your emotions wishing you were like them. You can get there you just need a plan and the will power.

For those of us with a slow or low metabolic rate anything we eat seems to go directly to our hips, thighs, face or stomach as soon as we swallow it.

Low Metabolism

The rate of our metabolism is effected by the percentage of lean muscle mass in our bodies compared to the amount of fat that is present in our bodies..

Our lean muscle mass burns calories for energy. The more lean muscle mass our bodies have the more fat our bodies will burn. The less lean muscle mass we have the less fat we burn up and the more fat that is stored by our bodies. Fat cells are just like 'holding pens' for fat when it is not used by our bodies. Everything has a purpose and use and your body will either use it or store it.

Most of us live inactive and sedentary lives. The result of not being physically active is that our metabolism slows down. When our metabolic rate slows to a certain point our bodies do not burn calories fast enough so all the excess calories go into our fat cells and we gain weight.

People that are more physically active have greater muscle mass which burns more calories and therefore more fat. There are people 'blessed' with a high metabolism and for them eating is not a problem. It doesn’t seem fair but it doesn’t mean you can’t help your metabolism become faster and more efficient.

Little fact:

Two people, one with more lean muscle mass than the other, can be sitting quietly next to each other and the person with more lean muscle mass will be
