CHAPTER 8 - Giant Totu

Giant Totu listened as Wizard Dotu finished explaining.

Giant Totu beamed with joy as the task set by Wizard Dotu would not be difficult for someone as powerful as him.  He said:

"Get King Motu, the Magnificent meeeanyee!

Hey, this is easy peasy Japaneesee!

Hand him over to King Chhotu the Cheeeater,

Husband to our Left-Behind-Lotu heeere.

I can do it indeed, Sire,

But is that really what is your desire?"

Queen Lotu, who could hardly hold herself back, nodded and so did Wizard Dotu.  Giant Totu continued his sing song way of speaking.

"Master Dotu, before I up and away,

There is something serious I just gotta say."

Wizard Dotu seemed ready to doze off again but straightened himself and looked at the giant.

"All this time I have been your slave,

From ever since I was a very young Imp.

I attain the age of eighteen,

Yup indeed this very year!

And you Sir will be two thousand years old,

if a day, I fear.

Ain't nothing much here for me to do,

Day after day after day.

You sleep, I wait, I wait, You sleep!

I just kinda hang around, can not go out to play!

Becoming fat and lazy by the week,

I need to do something! Anything but quick!

Nothing much comes my way except your snoring sound.

Outside everything is fine, life goes round.

So I was wondering,

Can you please set me free?

I must be going once again,

Northwards to Ezaarem and be happy as a bee."

Wizard Dotu smiled kindly at Giant Totu.

"My son Totu, that is a fair request. You have been very good to me. My magical tricks needed you to perform them. But I don’t need to do much magic these days. And keeping you as a slave has been bothering me too, I had decided to release you on my birthday which is next week."

Giant Totu was so overjoyed to hear this he tried to jump up and down but could not as his head was against the ceiling. So he just lifted and put down each leg in turn instead.

"In fact, my son Totu, please do for me this last task I have set you and then you can leave and be totally free. But listen Totu, you said Ezaarem? I have never heard of this Ezaarem. What is Ez..."

There was a loud clang followed by a thunderous bang that echoed through the room for a long while.

King Chhotu's dagger that had been holding back the door had tilted as the dagger's handle was heavy. It was forced out and clanged on the floor! The door shut with a bang! And Queen Lotu nearly jumped out of her skin. The Duchess of Charming in a most unlady-like fashion let out a piercing scream!

All this clanging, banging and screaming was too much for poor old Wizard Dotu.  His weak heart began to give away. He knew his end was near and that he would die there and then.

"Totu my son, please deal with King Motu, as I know you will, and you have your freedom. You have no master now. Congratulations, you are a free giant. And goodbye daughter Lotu. I die in peace."

Wizard Dotu's body shuddered and began to turn into dust particles the colour of a rainbow. The dust then slowly swirled beautifully, rose up and disappeared into thin air. Within minutes no trace of Wizard Dotu was left behind.

Queen Lotu was shocked beyond words - her father had just disappeared for ever. She thought she would pass out.

The giant, on the otherhand, was happy beyond words to receive his freedom and bowed to the empty throne to thank Wizard Dotu.

"Do not worry any more O Queen Lotu,

About Magnificent ‘Meany’ King Motu

For you have here l'l old Totu

He'll take care Of The Magnificent Motu!"

The giant then turned and went to open the entrance door to see what had caused the clang and the bang. Much to his surprise, there stood a great big, white bull outside the room!  Not only that but the bull had a crown on his head!  Not far away from the bull was a dagger on the floor of the corridor. Giant Totu looked at the bull in disbelief as the bull marched into the room.

Queen Lotu stared from where her father's body had disappeared to the bull with the crown on its head.  She recognised the crown and she immediately knew what King Chhotu the Cheater had done. He had not kept his promise! He had followed her!! And now he was a white bull!! Shocked, she let out another scream and this time actually did faint. Giant Totu rushed to her and just managed to catch her before she could hit the floor and hurt herself.

Giant Totu alone was left in charge in the room.

Looking at the bull, the giant really feared that people would chase and kill the bull for those jewels in the gold 'tiara', as he called it, that was on bull's head. And the dagger that he had seen outside, surely it looked like somebody had already thrown a dagger at the bull!

The Queen needed attention and the bull with jewels needed protecting from people.

Giant Totu had to come up quickly with a good plan.
