(107) Works of Love III A

Love Is the Fulfilling of the Law

This is a law we must uphold

One day at a time

It can be how our story's told

In the name of the divine

Our love must be always present

In every single moment

Not one hour of life is absent

From love and its involvement

In love there is no compromising

As there is no excusing

Nor in some rationalizing

Of our love's abusing

If Jesus can love in the suffering

Of crucifixion and being born

We can all aspire to this one thing

Beyond time we can be sworn

There is no reward that's promised

Love is a good within itself

We have no need to be admonished

That should strive for nothing else

Yet without this love we are poverty stricken

Deprived of what makes life worth living

For when we come to love as we are bidden

It's more than the law we are fulfilling

It's the best in us that has long been hidden

Which in many ways we will find thrilling

We no longer need to feel from our self forbidden

Or the cold winds which are chilling

When we strive to be somebody

We can lose our very soul

Death ends all of our celebrity

Only love can keep us whole
