(112-113) Works of Love

Love is the fulfilling of the law

God is the Middle Term in Love

Here's a moment I found revelatory

“God is the middle term”

Is a phrase that can bring glory

Of a sudden I could learn

I have sought the existential

At work in Kierkegaard

And find now what is elemental

In the beating of my heart

Love is part theophany

Where the divine is thus announced

It is part of a spiritual journey

Where the sacred is pronounced

Love is thereby clarified

We see with perfect vision

Love thy neighbor is not denied

Without love we stay imprisoned

Our aesthetic love is limited

To the superficial of the physical

Such love cannot be committed

To the love that is the mystical

The mystery of love is such

That it must be direct experience

It's God that makes the sacred touch

All else is our indifference

God makes not any separation

Acts within us as the middle term

From this comes our revelation

Of life and love affirmed
