(123) Works of Love

Love is the fulfilling of the law

Number One in Love

In the world we look out for number one

In self-love this is the highest wisdom

It's not a question of Thy will be done

Thus self-deceit in heaven's kingdom

We will not know what life can offer

If our love we will not express

When our neighbor is just some bother

Love's middle term has been repressed

Number one means we're in competition

With all others from two on down

From that what comes to fruition?

But fear from all around

In such competition, failure always threatens

We're losers if we're not first

To avoid that we use all weapons

And they just make things worse

But love is not competitive

No middle term means love's aggression

Our suspicions become repetitive

And our battle becomes our passion

If love works by a mathematic

It's one equal plus one equal other

Each day becomes dramatic

Such addition makes us lovers

Divine love brings us a victory

Far greater than all we can count

An escape from the world's identity

So we can know our own account

So tawdry numbers are superfluous

When loving neighbor as our self

Our success becomes continuous

And no one suffers from what is else

The divine in majesty is not a one

In our love the divine is all

There is no loss when all's said and done

From love's grace we need never fall
