(123) Works of Love
Love is the Fulfilling of the Law
The World Detests Love
The world cannot instruct us
About love in its nature
For God as the middle term is lost
And so, too, is love our neighbor
We will serve this group conformity
Or we can conform to the divine
The group will take us somewhere empty
Where we are led by those love-blind
The divine says love is sacrifice
The world says it's mutual pleasure
Love's of the spirit without artifice
The world loves to take what it can measure
Divine lovers are rejected
For such love differs from the rest
Love my neighbor can be detested
Love's persecution can withstand the test
Divine love is unconditional
When engaged we can hold fast
Love is more than what is mutual
Inherent sacred in its task
The love between us thus must bring
Both closer to love divine
To fulfill the law we enact this thing
So to sacred heights we then might climb
When Jesus died upon the cross
As love and love's sacrifice
Fulfilled the law at this great cost
To give us all love's life
