(134-135) Works of Love

Love is the fulfilling of the law

Endurance in Time Space and the Mundane

Love's inwardness must persist

In spite of any obstacles

All other forces it must resist

Sometimes that may seem a miracle

It must pass through water and not drown

Through empty space and not suffocate

When its forced up, it must move down

When made heavy, it must levitate

We know the inwardness of eternity

But the world is very heavy

It brings us to its busy certainty

That naught in life is steady

Time will always make our life drag

Swamped and smothered with the mundane

Love's inspiration to others can look quite mad

When it's the only way we're sane

Even to our bed of death

Last moment of self-renunciation

We will stand up to that test

Although it comes in trepidation

No matter how we are exhausted

We will hold our love upright

By life's distractions we've been accosted

Still not let the mundane blur our sight

To struggle with that grip of time

We wait in faith for connectedness

Perhaps in love we find a strength divine

As we strive for our love's blessedness
