(132—133) Works Of Love
Love is the fulfilling of the law
Love Is Inwardness
Love is too an inwardness
Not only external manifestation
It will demand our perseverance
To resist worldly temptation
Such love is sacrificial
Categorical and imperative
Received hatred is not superficial
It comes when we serve love's directive
Our inwardness is decisive
Against the world's distractions
Others will speak of us derisive
And condemn us and all our actions
Even when we speak not a word
Of their life in condemnation
Just seeing us can be heard
As the suggestion of diminution
To seek no reward is most suspicious
We must have a secret agenda
Nothing we can do will seem propitious
Nor will others to divine love surrender
Here is where we must persevere
To face a struggle we have not created
Others will strike from pain and fear
In love's inwardness this is some abated
Inwardness comes as our blessing
Perseverance comes as grace
When love is the theme we are addressing
Our souls are in a sacred space
