(224-230) Works Of Love
Part Two II Love Believes All Things
Love Is The Highest Good
Love is the highest good
It is our essential blessedness
To believe in all we should
And keep to our preparedness
For deceivers are self-denied
Of love in all its forms
Their very soul feels reified
In mistrust they do self wrong
At the core of all deception
Is to drive love to mistrust
To twist true love's perception
Life's spirit thus to crush
Deception appeals to our vanity
Looking stupid we can fear
So take up a cynical banality
And mistrust all that is near
Our own ego can most deceive
Confuse some identity with soul
In the false we come to believe
And find life cheaply sold
The middle term we thus deny
To the sacred become blind
The truth of life we do belie
Naught but ashes do we find
Deception makes for impotence
Love fills with growing power
Mistrust is dead by consequence
While belief will eternal flower
