(263-268) Works of Love V
That Love Hides the Multiplicity of Sins
What the world values in discovery
Is really quite amusing
It is a horrid form of flummery
And in the end abusing
We often seek to discover
The multiplicity of others' sins
That idea appalls the lover
Sin grows when such discovery begins
Discovery by the world is praised and admired
As it honored the one who discovered gunpowder
What that brought has long since transpired
With death and destruction it has showered
For discovery commands our deep admiration
No matter what becomes its consequence
So we seek discovery with determination
We wish to achieve it at any expense
The lover discovers nothing
This makes a very poor showing
Has no wish to be shrewd or cunning
Half-corrupt observer in their knowing
The lover will not exacerbate
What the world sees as a crime
Although the lover will not hesitate
To see what is divine
To discover evil is a species of infection
Such understanding sees evil everywhere
The lover sees with great perception
And knows evil makes for despair
